{"id":3032,"date":"2017-04-03T21:33:28","date_gmt":"2017-04-04T04:33:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sandiegopersonalinjuryattorney.pro\/law\/?p=3032"},"modified":"2017-04-03T21:59:48","modified_gmt":"2017-04-04T04:59:48","slug":"national-survey-of-bicyclist-and-pedestrian-attitudes-and-behavior","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sandiegopersonalinjuryattorney.pro\/law\/national-survey-of-bicyclist-and-pedestrian-attitudes-and-behavior\/","title":{"rendered":"National Survey of Bicyclist and Pedestrian Attitudes and Behavior"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This NHTSA Survey of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhtsa.gov\/sites\/nhtsa.dot.gov\/files\/811841a.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Bicyclist and Pedestrian Attitudes and behavior<\/a> is from 2012 but it is relevant today in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>One startling take away is that cyclists do feel threatened on their bikes on a fairly regular basis:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>When asked whether they felt threatened for their personal safety while riding a bicycle on their most<br \/>\nrecent travel day, one in eight respondents that had ridden in the past 30 days reported that they felt<br \/>\nthreatened during some point on their ride.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And no surprise, bicycle lanes and bicycle paths are important to cyclists, and being able to have one nearby where you live and work makes a difference:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Respondents who had ridden a bicycle within the past year and who have bicycle paths available within a<br \/>\nquarter mile of where they live were more likely to use bicycle paths for at least some of their rides<br \/>\ncompared to riders not living near bicycle paths.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Though cyclists want the &#8220;Idaho Stop&#8221; and California cyclists may soon get this law, the majority of cyclists know to obey the same roadway laws as car drivers and do stop at stop signs and lights:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Nearly all respondents were aware that the rules that apply to motor vehicles regarding traffic lights and<br \/>\nstop signs also apply to bicyclists. More than 9 in 10 reported that a bicyclist must stop at traffic lights<br \/>\nand stop signs.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Everyone is a pedestrian.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Respondents who had walked outside for five minutes or more at least once during the past year were<br \/>\nasked how often they walk during the summer months. Four in five respondents reported walking at least<br \/>\nonce a week.
