What is the Roundup lawsuit?
Monsanto first patented Roundup's main ingredient glyphosate when bringing the product to market in 1974. The product has since become the most popular and widely used herbicide in the world. In March 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer - a branch of the World Health Organization - published a study suggesting glyphosate exposure can cause cancer and other severe health problems. The World Health Organization has since declared glyphosate to be "probably carcinogenic to humans."
Monsanto has allegedly known about the potential harm Roundup could cause for years but failed to put a warning label on its product. In addition, evidence is circling that suggests toxicology reports given to the EPA showing glyphosate to be nontoxic and safe for use were actually ghost written by Monsanto and later attributed to other researchers. The Roundup lawsuit is premised on the fact that Monsanto knew or should have known the risks associated with Roundup but misled the public through false advertising and fraudulent studies.

Why is Roundup dangerous?
When sprayed on plants, Glyphosate seeps into plants leaves and accumulates inside the plant. The chemical inhibits a key enzyme that is required for plants to grow. Without this enzyme, weeds and other by-plants that Roundup has been sprayed wither and die.
Most studies on Glyphosate have been performed on the chemical in insolation; however, when sold as Roundup, glyphosate is combined with other toxins and chemicals that increase the products plant-killing capacity, thereby increasing its danger to humans.
Exposure to large quantities of Roundup, as many agricultural workers face on a daily basis, may place the human immune system under stress and increase risks for cancer.

- Pancreatic islet cell and skin tumors
- DNA and chromosomal damage
